Project Description
Located within a historic district, this renovation aimed to add a first-floor half bath and improve the kitchen’s natural light, functionality, and connection to the dining room. Working within a tight footprint, the design addressed limited counter space, an awkward stove setup with no service areas, and the client’s need for a multifunctional work-from-home space. Repurposed butcherblock surfaces, detailed wood accents, and thoughtful storage solutions brought warmth, efficiency, and character to the updated interior.

Existing Kitchen

The project began with a kitchen that lacked workspace and functionality. Because the home was located in a historic district, the design intended to balance preservation with modern features. The owner also worked from home, so the new layout needed to support both daily cooking and flexible work activities while tying the kitchen more closely to the dining room.

Proposed Floor Plan

In need of a powder room on the first floor, a half bathroom was incorporated within the space of the kitchen to make every inch count. Other features including a built-in bench and refined wood details also bring warmth and comfort to the project. Enhanced window areas and reorganized work zones created a brighter, more efficient kitchen that respects the home’s historic character while meeting the client’s modern lifestyle.
