Project Description

The studio was hired to design an addition to an existing garage located in Fall River, Massachusetts. The existing garage was being used for storage along with workspace for a vintage car. The owner was looking to upgrade the space and create a large addition to use as a small personal auto garage for their cars. They needed more storage space along with a location to put a car lift to be able to properly work under their vehicles.

One of the main goals of the project was to create a workshop space where a car could be lifted and worked on. This required a high ceiling and enough space to navigate automotive machinery around the vehicle.

Having a personal autoshop requires storage space for tools and parts so they don’t get in your way while working. The upper loft space was designed to provide enough storage that was both out of the way and conventient to get to.

The orignal garage space was upgraded with a higher ceiling and a passage door which provided more head height and enabled the owner to pass through between the two garage spaces making for a more workable shop.

"The renovated garage provides a better location for automotive work as well as a better separation between work space and storage."

While working through the design, one of the goals of our client was to understand the look and feel of the addition before it was built. The look, durability and cost of the materials were equally important.

Our design team worked to provide renderings of the exterior within the site context so the design could be completely conceptualized before construction.

Design elements of the neighboring buildings really shaped how the buildings from, roof and details came together which truly make it fit within its context.
